Heather Parnell and David Mackie began collaborating on projects in England and Wales in 1999 and have an extensive background of making art in the public realm with community participation. Their approach stems from a fundamental belief in the power of the environment to influence wellbeing and engagement to empower and enhance quality of life. Heather Parnell has a degree in Fine Art, specialising in printmaking. She has worked as Artist in Residence, advisor and consultant in hospitals and schools and is currently Artist in Residence at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital engaging staff, patients and the local community. David Mackie studied Arts & Aesthetics at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff and has worked as a freelance public artist since 1990. David has extensive experience collaborating on major regeneration schemes, integrating art in public spaces, primarily in ceramics, wood, stone and cast metals and has worked with a wide range of people, leading community engagement in the design process of a commission. His over-riding interest is in encompassing well-crafted and imaginative design solutions for site-specific artworks, with the belief that artworks can contribute significantly to the built environment by contributing features of quality and character.
